Our tickets for the 19th annual Kelowna and West Kelowna Garden Tour are now on sale for the early bird price of only $29 until May 31st when the price increases to $34.
The 19th Annual Flower Power Garden Tour is Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.
This year the self-guided Flower Power Garden Tour includes nine gardens, big and small, blooms and edibles along with tastings, demonstrations and experts to help beginning and advanced gardeners.
For those dipping their toes into vegetable gardening we are visiting a small scale farm that produces 40,000 lbs of vegetables per season. You may not be planning a farm, but we will capitalize on their expertise to translate their wisdom to our small plot of land or patio pot.
Another of the gardens on the tour surrounds a home that is listed as one of Canada’s Historic Places. The home was built in 1907! The equally historic property features extensive gardens, large trees and shrubs.
Other gardens include an artist’s country garden in a serene rural setting complete with pond and fountain, an urban garden tucked behind antique wooden doors with relaxing outdoor spaces and unique fairy gardens created for the owner’s daughter, and a garden for all seasons where a variety of shrubs and flowers take their turns blooming from February to October. We also tour a garden as creative as it’s artist owner with a peach tree grafted with plums, roses, perennials, vegetables and even peanuts!
To provide inspiration and aspiration, we visit a very large home with a equally large garden that will take your breath away with it’s mature trees, rock work, plantings and sweeping city views. Tugging on your heart strings another garden is a love story to the owners husband who died and never saw his garden plans complete. This entire garden is filled with heartfelt touches, fruit trees, a hazelnut grove, gardening beds and a fire pit that seats 12.
To kick off your tour you may want to start off with some treats from our friends Sandrine French Pastry & Chocolate or Okanagan Grocery who will be located in one of the gardens for the morning. If you get hungry later on, check out Glow Juicery and The CrAsian Food Truck for lunch or a snack.
Gardening expert Ken Salvail, Xeriscape guru Gwen Steele and Okanagan Master Gardeners will also be on site to answer questions.
We are thrilled to be hosting a large number of artists in the gardens showcasing their talents – Gallery 421, Alex Fong, Samara Carrier, and Cherie Sibley W. We also have a satellite art gallery at the Delta Grand Okanagan with the Impressions Art Group for you to enjoy when you are in the downtown Kelowna part of the tour.
Funds raised support:
Chefs in the Classroom – Edible Education: a classroom gardening and cooking program in elementary schools created by the Okanagan Chefs Association
Central Okanagan Community Gardens: helping neighbourhoods and communities create sustainable green spaces for gardening, food production, gathering and education.
