Flower Power Kelowna Garden Tour Returns for it’s 18th Season

The 18th Annual Kelowna Garden Tour, Flower Power, takes place on Saturday, June 13 from 9 am – 4:00 pm.

This self-guided tour of nine gardens provides a great opportunity to learn more about growing your own food, embracing water conservation through xeriscaping, container gardening and the fantasy of having a park in your own back yard.  Each garden is unique and reflects the owners own emphasis on entertaining, family lifestyle, and for some the simple search for serenity.

The gardens on the tour include:

•          A small city-sized lot transformed from neglected front yard to a surprisingly large producing vegetable and fruit garden that keeps award winning Chef Rod Butters stocked with produce for not only his home kitchen but for his restaurants as well

•          A 4000 square foot garden with five themes to illustrate xeriscape plantings can work in any home garden

•          Best summarized as West Coast meets English Country Garden meets Okanagan Xeriscape, a serene, peaceful, park-like garden invites visitors to rest and linger

•          A green space filled with old – heritage lilac and hazelnut trees, and new – plants specifically selected to attract birds and butterflies

•          A garden that emerged from weeds and a dust bowl to be recognized as a ‘Kelowna Beauty Spot’

•          An English country garden complete with a martini gate leading to the neighbours for evening cocktails

•          A collection of eclectic gardens filled with history, natural gardening processes and stunning wines

Gardening experts Ken Salvail, Gwen Steele and Okanagan Master Gardeners are on site to answer questions along with artists, demonstrations and tastings throughout the gardens scattered around the city. With the wide variety of gardens the Flower Power tour has something for both wanna-be and experienced gardeners.

Funds raised support Growing Chefs – a classroom gardening and cooking program in elementary schools and Central Okanagan Community Gardens.

Tickets for Flower Power are available at Bylands, Art Knapp, Green & Bear It, The Greenery, Dogwood Nursery, Rick’s Garden World, Kelowna Tickets at Orchard Park or flowerpowerylw.ca
